Tammy Reed

My life has moved full circle because of yoga.  I started in a studio at 9 years old taking intensive ballet classes from a Romanian teacher and then studied at North Carolina School of the Arts during high school.  My dancing career hopes ended when I found my sixteen year old body crippled with injuries from overuse and unrealistic expectations. I left school of the arts with college in my sight and became a high school English teacher in Milwaukee Public Schools.

My yoga journey began in 2007.  I was a stay at home mom of two young children and little time to think about what is now known as self-care.  A neighbor needed some willing participants for a free class so she could earn her 200 hour yoga certification.  I was apprehensive as something told me yoga would be life changing and I was not sure I was ready.  I leapt anyway.

I returned to the studio, this time with a practice of healing, of growth, of awareness, of beauty. I have been teaching since 2010.  I did my teacher certification through YogaFit and have taken workshops and certifications in prenatal, chair yoga, kids yoga, Power yoga, TRX, Barre and Pilates.  The mind-body connection fascinates me.

My classes challenge the mind and body but are not fancy.  We will explore what we can do, how we do it and how it changes us so we are our better selves off the mat.  But, it does not always have to be so serious. A little humor about ourselves goes a long way

In 2014, I went back to school to become a Physical Therapist Assistant and currently work in home health providing therapy to homebound patients.

Full circle indeed, mind, body, teaching, learning. See you on the mat.
