Wisdom Circle

This is an Intermediate Level Circle: We recommend having participated in at least 2 - 5 (non-beginner) circles before attending. In this 3 hour session, we will start with a circle exactly as we do in the Monthly Circling Lab. This will get us “warmed up” and put us in a place of the meditative space of connection before we move into the second half to use circling tools to explore the enactment of wisdom.

We use the tools of circling to have conversations about things that matter with a life well lived. More than a philosophical conversation, we will be exploring aliveness as it moves through our discourse.

YACEP : Teaching Chair Yoga

Teaching Chair Yoga with Introduction to Teaching Simple Meditation

Chair Yoga is a great way to introduce people to Yoga and meditation, particularly in a secular setting such as a school, library, or corporate health program, or in locations where setting out Yoga mats is impractical. Also, these simple practices make you feel so good, it is also a great way to bring more experienced students back to the basics.

Another important aspect is Chair Yoga's ACCESSIBILITY. It's important for Yoga teachers to be able to teach simple but powerful Yoga classes to beginners, older students, and others who have difficulty with some of the modern class formats. This Yoga teacher clinic will focus on some simple but effective warm-ups, stretches, and other practices that can be done in a chair and standing. In addition to the "exercises for joints and glands" we will include some simple pranayama, meditation, and other relaxation techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to share favorites of their own.

Schedule
9 am  :  Welcome, introduction, discussion on teaching Chair Yoga,
with meditation, pranayama, and pratyahara.
9:30a :  Chair Yoga class and practice
11am  :  Q&A and additional discussion, and sharing or additional Chair Yoga practices

 Journey to Wholeness Series

Journey to Wholeness Series

Using Yoga & TRE to Bring Wholeness to the Mind & Recover the Nervous System

Life has a way of getting the better of us at times. Whether it is constant stress that piles up, feeling left behind from rapid change, or it’s a shock to the system that never quite leaves us the same afterwards, the very act of living life can be like moving ahead with a part of ourselves missing. Yoga is one tool for living more whole. Yoga is great at releasing stress and calming the nervous system. TRE (Trauma Release Exercises) are great at releasing the deeper holding in the nervous system that tends to surface at inopportune moments.

This series will explore and deepen your use of both of these tools to bring you new horizons, clarity of mind, and freedom of being. Unprocessed events hold themselves in the body and thus we will guide you on your journey through the body to clear out where you’ve felt stuck. This will take place in four sessions, all taking place on Saturday from Noon to 2pm. You can sign up here.

Session 1 : “Letting Go of the Story” SAT April 29th

Easier said than done, we know. If yoga teaches us anything, it’s that rather than command your mind to do something (like “let it go”), it will often be more proficient to work it through the body. This is exactly what we will do in this week. Modern Research suggests what yogis and embodiment workers have known for a long time…. that dwelling on the past and old stories often not only doesn’t help, but it can reinforce unhealthy patterns. In this session, we will learn to do exactly this with the body… by going into extraordinary states of the nervous system that move it towards regulation and learn to let the old stuff go.

(NOTE: Do not consider these sessions a substitute for therapy. These sessions may complement clinical sessions, but as always, if you have concerns or have been in or recommended medical mental health care, consult your medical professional).

Session 2 : “Open to the Organic” SAT May 6th

Once we establish homeostasis in the nervous system, we are ready to explore the disconnect between our self sense and the human organism. This disconnect is often the cause of our holding onto past wounds and lack of processing. When we clear the nervous system, and come into attune-ment with the inner organism, we can begin to integrate the parts of us that have been cut off. The more alienated parts we can bring back into the fold, we become more than the sum of our parts. We become more whole.

Session 3 : “Befriending the Other” SAT May 20th

Only once we open to Spanda, the organic rhythms that permeate us, can it be accessible to bring the blind spots and alienated parts of ourselves back online. Now that we have set up these processes in our past two sessions, we will now dive into the felt sense of what is incomplete. Incompleteness cannot integrate incompleteness. This is why Sessions 1 & 2 are essential. From our wholeness and attunement to the inner organism, we can reach out and include more.

Session 4 : “Reconnect to Self, Re-Enchant Reality” SAT June 10th

The more deeply we get into rhythm with ourselves, and make ourselves whole, the bigger, brighter, better we can be in the world. We can Re-Enchant Reality. Whether you call this Wonder, Mystery, Divine, Love, or anything else, it is the entire purpose of the journey. The journey begets enchantment with reality itself.

Series Led By: Alex Pfeiffer, a eRYT500 Certified Yoga Teacher & Certified TRE Provider.

YACEP : Advanced Yoga Nidra

YACEP : Advanced Yoga Nidra

Advanced Yoga Nidra Yoga Teacher Clinic (also open to non yoga teachers)

This workshop is oriented for Yoga Teachers and Yoga/Meditation Teacher Trainees, but is suitable for anyone who has practiced Yoga and meditation and would like to deepen their practice. RYTs will be eligible for 3½ hours of YACEP continuing education credit. A digital certificate of completion that can be uploaded to Yoga Alliance will be provided on request.

Most Yoga teachers and students are familiar with ŚAVĀSANA, the deep relaxation that is usually offered at the end of most asana classes. YOGA NIDRA has many similarities to ŚAVĀSANA, but also has some unique differences.

This Yoga teacher clinic will include experiential sessions as well as thorough instruction on how to lead both YOGA NIDRA and ŚAVĀSANA. Yoga teachers will learn how to deepen their students' (and own) experience of ŚAVĀSANA and will also learn how to lead longer sessions of YOGA NIDRA.

YOGA NIDRA is (usually) a guided practice, sometimes described as a "super-deep ŚAVĀSANA" or "ŚAVĀSANA on steroids". It is also sometimes described as a "back door" to meditation. While there are many similarities, authentic YOGA NIDRA is actually quite different from both meditation or ŚAVĀSANA. The differences will be discussed and explored, and tools and scripts will be provided for both teaching and self-practice.

"YOGA NIDRA" literally means "Yogic Sleep", and is a focused, dynamic state where brain wave patterns resemble deep sleep. During the YOGA NIDRA session, you will lie comfortably on your back with your eyes closed. All that is required is that you focus on the instruction and stay aware!

Unfortunately, in the West, many traditional teachings of Yoga have been distorted and simplified in many ways. Many classes that teach simple relaxation or visualization are often called Yoga Nidra. These classes may have some benefit and are not necessarily "bad" classes, but they are not YOGA NIDRA. This will be an AUTHENTIC YOGA NIDRA practice, and for many people that have learned or practiced YOGA NIDRA before, this class can be considered Advanced YOGA NIDRA.

We have Yoga mats, bolsters, and blankets available, but you are welcome to bring your own blankets, pillows, sheets/shawls, blindfolds... Wear comfortable clothing. Because the session is scheduled during lunch time, you might want to bring a small snack or a light sandwich and water.

SCHEDULE (approx, with short breaks between segments)
► 11:15 am - Introductions and short overview followed by guided YOGA NIDRA practice.
► 12:45 Pm - Discussion and Q&A with detailed examination of YOGA NIDRA; comparison to typical ŚAVĀSANA and guided meditation practices; and instruction on leading YOGA NIDRA and ŚAVĀSANA.
► 2:00 pm - Practice: Guided ŚAVĀSANA or guided meditation (class choice) followed by Q&A.
► 2:45 - adjourn. The instructor will be available for additional Q&A.
► 3:00 to 4:00 pm - YOU ARE WELCOME TO REMAIN FOR AN ADDITIONAL YOGA NIDRA SESSION "COMMUNITY CLASS"

OM Exploration with Yoga & Chant (Yoga Chant) Fifth Thursday

This is treated as a usual class, thus memberships, trial month, class packs can all be used for this class, listed as “Yoga Chant” on the schedule.

Yoga Chant : Exploration of OM

Ever wonder why we “OM” at the start of practice? At first, this practice can appear to be completely separate from postures and breath. It may seem to be an anachronism or some kind of unnecessary holdover from the past. In truth, OM is doing something quite similar to the practice of posture.

In this class, we will do a standard asana (posture) practice and spend as much time with posture as we do any other class (an hour). We will use the extra time to break down how chant works just like asana. In the same way that asana is the practice is doing something with our physical body in order to impact the state of our nervous system (our state of mind). Likewise, Chant is not about how it sounds, but rather, where you are creating vibration in your body. It is the creating vibration in your body that has impact on your nervous system.

We will take time to break down and practice what effective vibration in the body is like and forever transform your OM and chanting practice from this day onward.

Flow Yoga Deep Dive : Weekend Intensive

to Jan 29

Flow Yoga Deep Dive : Weekend Intensive

We know that Regular Yoga can bring light to many areas of life whether it is a stronger, more fit, resilient body, or a mind that is less stressed, energized, and aligned with the soul.

But sometimes you need a boost.

This Flow Yoga Weekend Intensive features five workshops: Three 3 hour, a 2.5 hour, and a 2 hour. Each workshop will feature a unique approach to flow yoga and tap into a unique vibration of being that brings us deeper physical and mental health. We shall dive into the core of yoga that is therapeutic by essence.

This weekend is designed for anyone looking for something more than making physically impressive asanas (postures). It is designed for those looking to take their practice to a more internal place. In order to do this, one must be willing to exercise mindfulness and handle the practice with nuance, sensitivity, and take care of the little things.

All workshops will be in the Flow Yoga Format. As such, the goal of each workshop is to give you a gem that you can take into your regular practice. The workshops are all designed to be taken individually (except the final one); however, they are also designed to be greater than the sum of their parts and we encourage you if you can to join us for the whole weekend. But we also understand that it can be difficult to put an entire weekend aside and thus offer ala carte as well. January 27 - 29th.

The Weekend Schedule is:

Friday 6:30 - 9:30p : The Human Spark, Moved by Inspiration

Saturday 11a - 2p : The Spiritual Warrior, Fierce Embodiment on Integrity’s Path

Saturday 4:30 - 7:30p : Call of the Wild, Reconnecting to Creativity’s Roots

Sunday 11a - 1pm : Underdo It, Do Less/Be More

Sunday 2:30 - 5pm : The Master Key, the Gateless Gate (limited drop ins)

You can click on any of the workshops above for more information about the individual workshop or to sign up for an individual workshop. You can also Sign Up for the Full Weekend Here. Early Bird is January 25th.

Circling Lab (Suggested Donation $12)
Nov

Circling Lab (Suggested Donation $12)

This event is c0-hosted between Main Street Yoga Center & Authentic Madison. We will do 2 circles as well as have some integration time.

Donations
Donations are very much appreciated as they allow me to keep doing these. Suggested donation is $12, but any amount is welcome. We also know what its like to be broke and not be able to do anything as a result, so please come and do not let money be an obstacle. This practice is for EVERYBODY. We are sincere in calling it a donation. If you are brand new to circling, please do not worry about any donation. Thank You.

What is Circling?
Circling is an Intersubjective Meditation Practice where the participants all sit in a circle and essentially have a "meditative conversation". One person will be the “circlee” and will get most of our attention. The facilitator (Alex) will serve two roles: (1) As an air traffic controller and (2) as a type of yoga “communicative/verbal posture” adjuster. We (the participants) will be holding an intention of getting what its like to be the circlee (empathy) and having a meditative type conversation on how we experience the circlee in the moment. All participants are welcome to chime in. With multiple participants, the circle can be pulled in multiple directions. Therefore the facilitator will prioritize a particular direction (air traffic control) or thread in service of what is most alive or present.

This practice is not therapy. We are not in circle to fix the circlee, commiserate, give them advice, or tell them how they should or should not be. Still, we acknowledge what arises for us and share impact. This helps us explore any shared reality. We do this by owning our experience (stating what is inarguable) and checking it with the circlee. If this sounds confusing, no worries, it will be the facilitator’s job to help you (2, verbal yoga adjustments). .

This practice can help you tune into the things that you’re missing day to day and tune into the elements that help you see others, discover relational blind spots, be seen by others, connect, create intimacy, and discover things about yourself that you might not have found in 20 years sitting on a meditation cushion alone. . In the end, circling is exploring your true nature and the true nature of others.
